The term “non linear editing” is usually associated with a computer based software driven system where digitized video and audio clips stored on a hard drive or server are placed on a timeline Multiple video and audio tracks can be placed on the timeline (pictured left). With non linear the project can be assembled onto the timeline in any order The timeline timeline plays the in and out  points of the clips on the hard drive. Making changes to the timeline is just like moving sentences around in a word processing programme
